Carrie Owen Plietz, FACHE

Carrie Owen Plietz, FACHE, is the interim executive vice president, group president, and chief operating officer of national care delivery for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Hospitals. In this role, she is accountable for Kaiser Permanente’s hospital-based markets and patient care services, serving over 10 million members through 200,000 care team professionals. In addition, she directs strategy and innovation in care delivery operations across Kaiser Permanente’s national footprint.

Owen Plietz joined Kaiser Permanente in November 2020. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Owen Plietz spent nearly 5 years with Wellstar Health System in Atlanta where she served as executive vice president and chief operating officer, which included 11 hospitals, multiple outpatient centers, post-acute care operations, and other facilities and services. Owen Plietz previously spent 17 years at Sutter Health, a Northern California regional integrated health care system, serving in multiple executive leadership roles.

Owen Plietz previously served as Chair for the American College of Healthcare Executives, which has 50,000 members worldwide, and past chair of the Healthcare Executives Study Society. She is board certified in health care management as an ACHE fellow. She currently serves on the VCU Health Administration Alumni committee, Co-Chair of the Bay Area Council Health Committee and the Executive Committee of the California Hospital Association Board.

Owen Plietz holds a master’s degree in health administration and health law fellowship from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, and a bachelor’s degree in health administration from James Madison University where she graduated with honors.
