Tyler A. Bauer, MA, MBA, LCPC, joined UChicago Medicine in June 2023 as Senior Vice President, System Ambulatory Operations bringing more than 25 years of clinical, operational, and strategic management experience to his new role. At UChicago Medicine he is focusing on creating a unified ambulatory network, consistent operational and care delivery models, and excellent patient and clinician experiences across the system. Tyler supports UChicago Medicine’s growth strategy with oversight for the operations of its 13 ambulatory care facilities and 10 clinic sites, supporting 1,500 physicians with locations on the main medical campus in the Hyde Park neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, throughout the Chicago suburbs, and Northwest Indiana.
Prior to joining UChicago Medicine, he served nearly 12 years with NorthShore University Health System Medical Group (now Endeavor Health) – a multi-specialty group practice comprised of over 1,000 primary and specialty physicians, spanning over 50 specialty services and more than 140 locations through the Chicagoland area. His most recent role in the Medical Group included overall operational responsibility for the service lines of Immediate Care, Primary Care, and Virtual Care and facilities/construction and regulatory/compliance. He was instrumental in advancing NorthShore’s primary care efforts by integrating genetics and personalized medicine tools into patient care plans to help physicians more precisely guide a patient’s medical management. Additionally, he led the expansion of NorthShore’s immediate care sites – a three-year plan to open over 20 new sites. Tyler was an executive co-sponsor of NorthShore’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee and the TrueNorth Employee Resource Group.
Prior roles at NorthShore included operational leadership positions in Primary Care, Immediate Care, Oncology and the Kellogg Cancer Centers, Medical Specialties, and Psychiatry. His background also includes management and leadership roles at several Chicago area healthcare institutions focused on services for pediatrics and in behavioral health.
Tyler is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), where he served on the Management Series Editorial Board and LGBTQ Healthcare Leaders Community Committee. He is an ACHE Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program Scholar and was also named one of Crain’s Chicago Notable LGBTQ Executives in 2020.
Tyler has maintained his license as a Clinical Professional Counselor, and when practicing he provided therapeutic services mainly to children and adolescents and their families as well as crisis intervention and assessment.
Tyler earned his BS in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, his MA in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College Graduate School, and his MBA from National Louis University.
