Tim Putnam, DHA, MBA, EMT, FACHE, has worked in healthcare for forty years, initially in laser/minimally invasive surgery research and later served as CEO at community hospitals in Illinois and Indiana for nearly two decades. He received his MBA from the University of Southern Indiana and a Doctorate in Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina. A lifelong learner, Dr. Putnam received his certification as an emergency medical technician in 2015 and served on the local EMS service for several years. He is past-president of both the National Rural Health Association and Indiana Rural Health Association. Previous engagements include appointments by Governor Mike Pence to chair the Indiana Graduate Medical Education Board and by President Biden to the COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force, for which he chaired the Healthcare Access and Quality subcommittee. Dr. Putnam lectures nationally on rural healthcare improvement, the transition from volume to value, rural issues including, graduate medical education, stroke and cardiac care, EMS, and health equity. He recently co-authored the book Healthcare Leadership and Rural Communities. He is currently president of Rural Health Consulting and faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina.
