Safety & Quality
People who live in rural communities live an average of three years fewer than urban counterparts and have a 40% higher likelihood of developing heart disease (14.2%) compared with their counterparts in small metropolitan (11.2%) and urban (9.9%) areas, a gap that has grown over the past decade. A moderated panel presentation will bring together rural thought leaders from a variety of setting and roles to engage in a dynamic and diverse conversation addressing the unique opportunities and challenges to providing evidence-based acute care aimed at attaining optimal cardiovascular and stroke outcomes across rural America. An overall summary of how collaboration is a key strategy for addressing rural health disparities and how organizations sharing similar goals can work together to identify and execute solutions will be shared. Creative solutions to barriers that rural healthcare facilities often face, such as workforce, training and limited resources, will be highlighted.
