Dr. Manjinder Kaur, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE is the Chief Nursing Officer at New York City Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health, one of the acute care facilities of the largest public health system in the United States.
In 2006, Dr. Kaur joined the New York City Health + Hospitals as an ER and trauma center nurse with prior experiences in cardiac, medical, and neurocritical care. She was acknowledged to uphold standards of nursing practice to its highest levels and was promoted to education supervisor, in which she transformed the orientation curriculum and taught nurses to become confident and competent. She followed an upward trajectory as an assistant director and director. In these roles, she implemented activities in patient- and family-centered care aligned with the organizational pillars of quality and outcomes, care experience, financial sustainability, care access, and culture of safety.
Prior to returning to nursing, Dr. Kaur assumed the responsibilities of hospital operations and clinical services. In this role, she developed procedures and established evidence-based standards to support clinical practices. She led the development of clinical cardiac guidelines and successfully started the Percutaneous Cardiac Intervention (PCI) program at South Brooklyn Health. As the CNO since 2020, Dr. Kaur increased the nursing certification rate from 14% to 22%; decreased one-to-once utilization and cost; developed a staffing committee, recruitment, and retention; established professional shared governance committees; received Beacon Award and Pathway to Excellence designation; and improved patient outcomes by markedly reducing the incidences of nurse-sensitive indicators in HAPI, CAUTI, CLABSI, and Falls.
Dr. Kaur earned her diploma in nursing and midwifery internationally and pursued her bachelor of science and master of science in nursing degrees from Excelsior College. Dr. Kaur obtained a doctoral degree in nursing practice with a concentration in nursing leadership in 2021.
