Dan Gentry is President & CEO of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). He served as Clinical Professor & MHA Program Director at the University of Iowa 2016-2020. He was Professor & Director of Health Systems Management & Policy, Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs, University of Memphis, 2011-2016. He served as Professor of Health Systems Management & Director of the MS-HSM Program, Rush University, 2007-2011. Dan spent the first 13 years of his academic career, 1994-2007, at Saint Louis University, where he directed the SLU MHA Program.
Dan has taught in the areas of healthcare organization, health management & organizational behavior, human resources, and leadership. His research interests have included the financing, organization, and delivery of health services; tobacco, obesity, and HIV/STD policy; evaluation of health services programs; quality improvement and the patient experience; and, moving providers from volume to value.
Dan is the Past Chair of ACHE’s LGBTQ Forum. He is a past Fellow, Board Member, and Board Chair of CAHME. Dan is a past and current AUPHA Board Member.
Dan earned his BA from the College of Charleston, MHA from MUSC, and PhD in Health Services & Policy Analysis from UC, Berkeley.
