Brenda is an emerging leader within Kaiser Permanente and a master's prepared nurse with a background in case management. Brenda completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, San Diego with a biology degree and a psychology minor.
Brenda has over 10 years of experience in healthcare, with half of those years in care coordination, spanning organizations in both nonprofit and government sectors. Brenda currently serves as an Assistant Nurse Manager with Utilization Review-Discharge Planning at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento Medical Center in Sacramento, CA; she manages over 20 patient care coordinators in the acute care settings, including emergency department and inpatient services. Through an emphasis on leading with integrity, strong relationships, and process improvement, Brenda has led the implementation and transition of a new personnel scheduling system, and spearheads the Emergency Department High Utilizer Committee to reduce ED utilization and hospital readmissions.
In prior roles, Brenda was an acute care case manager at UC Davis Health, Sutter Health, KP Vacaville Medical Center and KP Sacramento Medical Center. Her passion lies in serving culturally diverse, underserved populations, continuous process improvement, and providing affordable and accessible patient-centered care to all.
With a demonstrated history of delivering an innovative and collaborative approach to problem-solving, Brenda has been invited to speak at several universities and participates in hospital-wide process improvement projects.
Brenda is serving a two-year term as a Planning Commissioner with the City of West Sacramento Planning Commission (2022-2024). She is also an Editorial Board member of the Case Management Society of America’s CMSA Today publication.
