Jim Hinton is CEO of Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest not-for-profit health system in Texas. The integrated delivery network includes 49,000 employees, 52 hospitals, 7,500 affiliated physicians, more than 1,100 access points, Scott and White Health Plan, Baylor Scott & White Research Institute and one of the nation’s largest accountable care organizations, Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance. As CEO, Mr. Hinton sets strategic direction, develops high-performing leaders, and creates partnerships to transform care delivery and advance the health of Texans. Previously, Mr. Hinton served for 21 years as president/CEO of New Mexico’s largest healthcare provider, not-for-profit Presbyterian Healthcare Services. During his tenure at Presbyterian, he led the development of its integrated system, which included eight hospitals, the Presbyterian Health Plan and Presbyterian Medical Group.
Mr. Hinton served as the 2014 chair for the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association. He formerly chaired AHA’s Committee on Research and the Operations Committee. He also served on the board of Premier and chaired the board of the Healthcare Institute. In addition to his CEO role, Mr. Hinton serves on the Baylor Scott & White Holdings Board of Trustees and the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Board of Directors. Among industry honors, he has been named five times to Modern Healthcare’s “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare,” most recently in 2019. Mr. Hinton received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of New Mexico and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Arizona State University.
