Senior Vice President/Chief Clinical and Patient Safety Officer


As senior vice president/chief clinical and patient safety officer, Eva Karp has executive responsibility for defining Cerner’s clinical practices to optimize user experience, patient outcomes and organizational execution. She also has responsibility for the clinical and provider voice related to clinical strategies, regulatory affairs, medical affairs, patient safety and data management. Dr. Karp co-chairs Cerner’s Clinical Executive Governance Board. She engages client organizations to understand their needs and optimize clinical workflows to achieve increased patient safety, and partners to help organizations navigate changes in the healthcare landscape while integrating Cerner’s strategies to achieve organization satisfaction.

Dr. Karp joined Cerner in 2001 and has held various roles, including vice president of Strategic Clinical Solutions within the Intellectual Property organization. Prior to joining Cerner, Dr. Karp had more than 16 years of experience in healthcare informatics and 12 years of neurological and surgical ICU care experience. While at Cerner, she has developed three patents related to clinical workflow and innovations and contributed to the development of CareAware Infusion Management. She continues to drive intelligence within clinical workflows and support clinical reasoning, utilizing data and analytics from Cerner’s Lights On Network to optimize clinical workflows across healthcare organizations.

Dr. Karp has a doctorate in healthcare administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, a master’s degree in business administration from University of Phoenix, a bachelor’s degree in business management from Dowling College, and an associate degree in nursing from Miami Dade Community College. She serves as chair of the board of directors for the Center of Practical Bioethics and as a member of the boards of the Alliance for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, Universal Health Foundation BOD, and the ALA local leadership board. She is a Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference peer reviewer and co-chair of the HIMSS HIT User Experience committee. She also serves as an executive sponsor and chair for the Pediatric Leadership Council, CNO Forum, Patient Safety Council and Patient Care Executive Council.

Dr. Karp received a STEMMy Award from Central Exchange for groundbreaking leadership in technology, and she was named one of the “Most Influential Women in Health IT” by HIMSS. She is board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow.
