Catherine G. Brown is associate vice president, advanced practice providers, for UAB Medicine in Birmingham, Ala. Her role includes oversight of the clinical practice of more than 700 advanced practice providers, including physician assistants and nurse practitioners. This includes oversight for credentialing, onboarding, scope of practice and regulatory compliance of advanced practice providers; oversight of the coordination and quality of clinical training for advanced practice students within the health system; and advocacy on behalf of the 900-plus APPs within UAB Medicine.

Dr. Brown’s advocacy for advanced practice stretches beyond the walls of the health system, as her team is directly involved in advocacy for practice and policy transformation at the state and national levels. Dr. Brown’s work also includes developing practice models for the organization while monitoring productivity and quality outcomes of these models. Dr. Brown collaborates with the UAB School of Nursing and the UAB School of Health Professions on initiatives to improve the education and training of students and to improve quality of care delivered within the health system. She serves as the advanced practice representative on numerous health system clinical practice, financial, quality, engagement and leadership committees.
