Institute for Healthcare Improvement
Amy Reid is director of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. In this role, she leads the institute’s efforts to advance health equity, including strategy development; initiative design, implementation and evaluation; and teaching and coaching. She is director of IHI’s Pursuing Equity initiative, focused on narrowing equity gaps and understanding how healthcare can leverage its resources to advance equity. Ms. Reid also serves on IHI’s Results and Evaluation team, setting priorities for learning and evaluation, implementing a theory-driven formative evaluation approach in healthcare and community health programs, and speaking internationally on evaluation. Before joining IHI, she supported quality improvement programs at the North Carolina Area Health Education Center and at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, where she conducted a qualitative evaluation of a maternal and child health QI program in Ghana. She has published peer-reviewed articles and blog posts on formative evaluation, community engagement in quality improvement, health equity and scaling up successful initiatives. Ms. Reid received a Master of Public Health degree in health behavior and health education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Davidson College.
