Randy Oostra is CEO of ProMedica, a not-for-profit, mission-based, integrated health and well-being organization headquartered in Toledo, Ohio. The $7 billion organization serves communities in 28 states and offers acute and ambulatory care, an insurance company with a dental plan, and post-acute and academic business lines. Dr. Oostra has more than 40 years of healthcare and management expertise, with 25 of those years spent at ProMedica. He is regarded as one of the nation’s top leaders in healthcare and has earned a spot on several prestigious listings, including Modern Healthcare’s “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” for five consecutive years (2017-2021), Becker’s Hospital Review’s “100 Great Healthcare Leaders to Know” (2019) and Modern Healthcare’s “Top 25 Innovators” (2022). He is a visionary leader who truly believes community and service go hand in hand. This strong commitment to the healthcare industry and community is demonstrated through his extensive involvement in numerous professional and civic organizations at the local, regional and national levels. He serves on the board of trustees of the following organizations: Local Initiatives Support Corporation; The Root Cause Coalition (chairperson), which ProMedica founded; Toledo Museum of Art; ConnecToledo Downtown Development Corporation (past chair); Socially Determined; Kumanu; and Toledo Symphony (past chair). He is also a member of the Ohio and Michigan Hospital Associations. As recognition for his strong commitment and positive contributions to the community, Dr. Oostra was honored with the Jefferson Award for Public Service. He also was chosen by the Jefferson Awards Foundation to represent Toledo at the organization’s national ceremony in Washington, D.C. Additionally, Dr. Oostra received the Ohio Hospital Association’s Donald R. Newkirk Award for making a significant lifetime contribution to the healthcare industry. He was also named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award winner for the Michigan and Northwest Ohio region. Dr. Oostra holds a doctorate in management from Case Western Reserve University, a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Management degree from the University of Wisconsin, and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Northwestern College. He is board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow.
