Michelle Vassallo is an award-winning and accomplished nursing leader with nearly 15 years of experience. She currently serves as vice president of nursing for the clinical platforms service line at Inova Health System. In this role, Ms. Vassallo is responsible for clinical quality, service, and affordability metrics and overall strategic direction of laboratory and pathology services, pharmacy services, nutrition services, and diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology services for Northern Virginia’s leading nonprofit healthcare provider. She played an integral role in Inova’s fight against COVID-19, assuming the responsibility of administrative lead, COVID Coordination Center, in March 2020. Since that time, Ms. Vassallo has become a leading and trusted voice, both internally at Inova and in the community, as the organization continues its pandemic-related efforts. Prior to her current position, Ms. Vassallo held the title of associate CNO at Inova’s Fairfax Medical Campus, a role she earned in 2017, 10 years after joining IFMC as a staff nurse in the Adult Emergency Department and Trauma Center in 2007. Throughout her time at IFMC, Ms. Vassallo also held the title of nurse manager (2010 to 2014) and clinical director (2014 to 2015) of the Adult Emergency Department and Trauma Center. In 2015, she was named senior director of nursing with oversight of emergency services (three sites of care), the Adult Observation Unit, and the Nursing Operations and Capacity Management departments. Ms. Vassallo has earned numerous accolades, including being named one of Washingtonian Magazine’s “50 Outstanding Nurses” in 2021 and the Healthcare Council of the National Capital Area Employee of the Year in 2016. She has also contributed to numerous medical publications and delivered numerous keynote presentations throughout the Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia area. A member of both the American Organization of Nurse Executives and ACHE, Ms. Vassallo is a Certified Nurse Executive through the American Nurse Credentialing Center and a Certified Emergency Nurse through the Board of Certified Emergency Nurses. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Virginia and holds a Master of Healthcare Administration degree with an emphasis in executive management from George Mason University.
