Health System Strategist/Professor
Michael H. Goldberg

Michael Goldberg is passionate about sharing lessons to support leaders. Following a successful career in healthcare leadership as the former executive director (hospital president) of Northwell Health’s Long Island Jewish Medical Center, he founded and created Walkalongside Leader Inc. While at LIJ, he led the day-to-day operations of the hospital’s $1 billion annual operating budget, 583 beds, 6,500 employees and 4,000 physicians. Working with the leadership team, Mr. Goldberg drove clinical and operational initiatives to ensure appropriate, safe, efficient and innovative care to its patients. Building on his experiences, Mr. Goldberg now helps executives support their culture by sharing what it means to be a “Walkalongside Leader.” At the heart of the original epicenter of COVID-19 in the United States, Northwell Health treated over 300,000 people, including at LIJ in Queens, N.Y. Mr. Goldberg was notably tasked with leading the country’s first most impacted hospital at the beginning of the pandemic. As executive director, he focused on operations, quality, finance, patient satisfaction and staff performance. He has been in progressive administrative roles at LIJ since 2009, including serving as the hospital’s CFO. Prior to LIJ, Mr. Goldberg worked in Northwell’s financial planning department for nine years, where he was responsible for capital planning, business plans and financial analytics. Mr. Goldberg is an adjunct professor in Hofstra University’s Department of Health Professions, School of Health Sciences and Human Services, where he teaches graduate-level students. As an active philanthropist, Mr. Goldberg extends his contributions to the community by supporting local and global causes important to him through financial and personal time commitments. He received his master’s degree in healthcare delivery science as part of the 2013 inaugural class from Dartmouth College. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Rhode Island and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from Hofstra’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business. Mr. Goldberg is board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow.
