Mary Jo Cagle, MD
Mary Jo Cagle is CEO of Cone Health. She is the first woman and the first physician to lead the multihospital Cone Health system, and she was named one of Modern Healthcare’s “10 Women Leaders to Watch” in 2021. Dr. Cagle most recently served as COO at Cone Health. Since joining the organization in 2011, she has been instrumental in leading Cone Health to national recognition for quality of care. She previously was CMO at Bon Secours St. Francis in Greenville, S.C., where she was a physician partner at Greenville East Center for Women. Dr. Cagle received her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham and her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Greenville (S.C.) Hospital System and her CMO fellowship through the Health Management Academy. Dr. Cagle’s many recognitions include the Nina Griggs Gunter Servant Leadership Award for 2022, the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce ATHENA Award for 2022, the North Carolina Hospital Association’s 2017 Clinical Leadership Award, the National Association of Professional Women’s 2013-2014 Woman of the Year award, and the South Carolina Hospital Association’s 2010 Lewis Blackman Award. She was also named to Triad Business Journal’s 2014 “Outstanding Women in Business” list. Dr. Cagle currently serves on the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 Testing Surge Workgroup, the Health Equity Board for the North Carolina Hospital Association Center, the board of trustees for Trevecca Nazarene University, the Family Service of the Piedmont board of directors, and the Reading Connections board. Dr. Cagle is a member of the advisory committee for the Chief Medical Officer Fellowship of the Health Management Academy. She has been married to Randy Mashburn for 39 years. They have two adult sons, Robert and Joseph.
