Kevin Broom, PhD
Kevin Broom serves as vice chair for education and director of the Master of Health Administration and MHA/Master of Business Administration programs for the Department of Health Policy and Management at the University of Pittsburgh. He provides oversight for the range of academic programs offered within the department and leads the planning and execution of the MHA program and the joint MHA/MBA program. Dr. Broom conducts research on a range of financial issues impacting organizations within the health industry, primarily focusing on the relationship between quality of care and financial performance and the development and assessment of management competencies. Prior to joining the Pitt faculty in 2017, Dr. Broom completed a 23-year career in the military within the Army Medical Department, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. During active duty, he served as a professor, financial manager, health administrator and paramedic. His Army experiences include work in numerous tactical healthcare delivery organizations within the rapid deployment forces as well as within the Army’s network of traditional hospitals. Dr. Broom’s other positions of note include commanding in the 101st Airborne Division, providing graduate-level education to more than 250 future health executives, being a hospital CFO and serving as a medic along the Iron Curtain during the Cold War.
