Katherine Schmidt is the Advocate Aurora System Nursing Well-Being program manager. With more than 27 years of experience in professional nursing, she has practiced alongside caring and skilled team members filled with compassion and dedication to serving patients every day. In her current role, she is working toward establishing a culture of nursing resiliency that empowers individual skills, behaviors and attitudes that support nurses to view their work not only as a place of energy expenditure but also a source of energy renewal. Ms. Schmidt was the system nursing shared governance president for Advocate Aurora Health for three years, with a focus on communication linkages, nursing professional practice, development and research. She is a current student in the Master of Sustainable Peacebuilding program at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, College of Nursing. Strengthening the connections and collaborations within current internal Advocate Aurora Health workplace systems, and the processes and practices that promote safety, quality, and positive patient and colleague interactions, is fundamental to her role.
