John M. Haupert, FACHE
John Haupert is president/CEO of Grady Health System in Atlanta. He began his tenure at Grady in October 2011. A native of Ft. Smith, Ark., Mr. Haupert is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, where he earned a Master of Science degree in healthcare administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. Mr. Haupert has dedicated his career to serving not-for-profit and public academic safety net health systems and hospitals that focus on providing exceptional whole-person care to vulnerable populations. His career in healthcare management began at Methodist Health System in Dallas in 1992, where he served for 14 years in various roles, including president of one of the system’s hospitals and executive vice president for corporate services and business development. In October 2006, Mr. Haupert left the Methodist Health System to become COO at Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas. Mr. Haupert is a recipient of the ACHE Regent’s Leadership Award. He also served as an ACHE Regent and on the Nominating Committee. He currently serves as immediate past chairman of the board of trustees of the Georgia Hospital Association. He is a member of the board of directors of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Rotary Club of Atlanta. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for The Atlanta Committee for Progress. In 2015, Mr. Haupert was appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal to serve as a member of the board of the Georgia Department of Public Health. Nationally, Mr. Haupert is the 2022 chair-elect of the American Hospital Association. He served on its Board of Trustees from 2018 to 2020 and chairs the AHA’s Strategic Leadership Group for Urban Hospital Sustainability. In 2019, he was named by The CEO Forum as one of the “10 CEOs Transforming Healthcare in America.” That same year, he became the ninth Georgia hospital leader since 1978 to receive the Georgia Hospital Association Gold Honor Award. Mr. Haupert is board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow.
