Joanne M. Conroy, MD
Joanne M. Conroy has led Dartmouth-Hitchcock and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health as CEO/president since 2017. Under her leadership, Dartmouth-Hitchcock is moving toward the planned opening, in 2023, of a $150 million expansion of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. In 2021, D-H opened a $59 million expansion at D-H’s Manchester, N.H., clinic, which includes an ambulatory surgical center. The goal of both these projects is to increase access to key clinical services for patients. Dr. Conroy is also leading a plan to construct a new facility in Bedford, N.H., to ensure state-of-the-art patient care in an environment that combines the strengths of personalized care in the community with the coordinated, top-tier medical expertise of an academic health system. Dr. Conroy has long been a formidable force and is a vocal advocate for increasing the role of women in leadership. She is a founding member of Women of Impact, a group of healthcare executives addressing complex problems in the industry. Her recent national and regional awards and honors include the 2021 Steven Schroeder Award for Outstanding Healthcare CEO given by the Leapfrog Group. In 2022, she was named the “2022 Citizen of the Year” by the New Hampshire Union Leader, and she was named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s “Top 113 Great Leaders in Healthcare” list. She is often singled out as a role model for other women who aspire to become leaders and agents for positive change in healthcare. In 2018, Dr. Conroy was named one of the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare, and she was included on the magazine’s inaugural listing of Women Leaders Luminaries in 2019. She has been named to Boston Business Journal’s “Women of Influence” list and to Becker’s Hospital Review’s “130 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know,” “135 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know,” and “36 Woman Physician Leaders to Know” lists. Dr. Conroy was selected to present the Emery A. Rovenstine Memorial Lecture at the 2020 American Association of Anesthesiologists meeting, an annual lecture delivered by a prominent anesthesiologist.
