J. Larry Tyler is chairman/CEO of Practical Governance Group, a team of consultants and academicians interested in the education and advancement of boards. As a certified facilitator, he also helps groups arrive at their own answers. Mr. Tyler is also a career coach for senior executives changing positions in the healthcare field. He is chairman emeritus and founder of Tyler & Company, a firm that specializes in healthcare and physician executive recruitment. In his nearly 40-year history with the company, Mr. Tyler earned numerous awards, including BusinessWeek’s “one of the top 100 most influential headhunters in the world.” Other accolades include ACHE’s Regent Award for Georgia. In 2010, Mr. Tyler received ACHE’s President’s Award for his “tireless contribution to ACHE’s career advancement efforts.” In 2012, he received ACHE’s Exemplary Service Award, the association’s highest service award, for his commitment of volunteer service to the healthcare management profession. In 2013, Tyler & Company became part of Jackson Healthcare, one of the largest staffing companies in the country. Mr. Tyler shares what he’s learned working with healthcare and physician executives in his book Tyler’s Guide: The Healthcare Executive’s Job Search, now in its fourth edition. He earned his Master of Professional Accountancy degree from Georgia State University and his Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Tyler is board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow.
