About the Session
In an explosion of hospital mergers and acquisitions, healthcare entities have been partnering to increase their chances of survival in a tough new healthcare landscape. Many in the healthcare field believe these new affiliations are bringing about greater efficiency, higher quality of care and increased operational savings—all necessary goals in our value-based care environment. However, are our patients and the communities we serve benefiting from these business decisions? Will smaller, free-standing community hospitals soon disappear like the independent bookstore or the community bank? Dr. Berkowitz—a physician with over 30 years’ experience in healthcare practice, management and consulting—will use his unique insights into clinical care and hospital operations to discuss cost saving measures and outsourcing options for community hospitals and the patients they serve.
