By 2028, Generation Y and Generation Z will make up 58% of the workforce, and by 2030, they will represent 74% of the workforce. The existence of multiple generations in today’s complex healthcare environment presents unique challenges and unfamiliar terrain for today’s healthcare leaders. For the first time in history, the workforce of today spans five generations with the newest generation cohort, Gen Z, entering the workforce in 2020. Managers are increasingly grappling with generational differences, and a lack of understanding regarding these unique differences contributes to conflict within working relationships, lowers productivity and increases turnover. For the past several years, much of workplace talk has been credited to millennials—their likes, dislikes and how they compare to the generation that came before them.

The open office, weekly happy hours, flexible schedules, bold furniture and casual attire are the result of millennials entering the workforce and demanding a different style of work. But millennials are no longer the younger generation of workers; Gen Z has officially entered the workforce, and they come with their own set of expectations.

The expectations of Millennials and Gen Z are reshaping the office. To appreciate the differences, however, we need to understand how these two cohorts operate. This session provides an overview of the current expectations, trends and challenges today’s youngest generation cohorts present for healthcare leaders. During this discussion, the audience will gain a better understanding how multigenerational conflicts affect organizational culture, recruitment, retention and employee satisfaction. When it comes to managing a multigenerational workforce, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. In this seminar, we hope to give you a real experience of this collision of Gen Y and Gen Z expectations. Our objective is to provide you with a better understanding of the newest trends impacting the way we work today.
