About the Session
Many health systems were experiencing financial difficulties before the pandemic. The surge of COVID-19 patients accompanied by the unprecedented decline in most other categories of patients have placed significantly more health systems in a precarious financial position. The macroeconomics in most markets do not help matters, as millions of workers have become unemployed, losing their commercial insurance benefits, which have been replaced by Medicaid or worse: they join the ranks of the uninsured. We are in a fight for survival. Health systems must focus on a factual analysis of the environment; the essential competencies necessary to survive in this new environment; an honest assessment of whether their organization possesses these competencies; and, if not, developing and implementing these competencies in a timely manner. This presentation is for bold leaders who recognize that to protect their organization’s future, they will have to make aggressive, practical and sometimes unpopular strategic moves today.
