About the Session

This scheduled 2020 ACHE Congress session resulted in 318 registered attendees, a response that reinforces the urgency to increase operating margins as one of the top three strategic mandates of any U.S. CEO for the last three or more years. New methods have been tried. Old methods have been retried. Mergers have promised to solve the urgency. A central characteristic of all these approaches has been tools and task forces. Yet, none have provided the necessary oomph to tackle the problem.

In this CEO-only session, three CEOs will orchestrate, in a panel discussion format, with impromptu give and take between the presenters and the audience, a rich dialogue about what’s working and what’s not working in the quest to increase margin sustainably. One CEO will share difficulties of operating independently without regional or corporate support or resources while two CEOs will share the complexities of operating within a large regional health system framework.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the journeys toward double-digit margin improvement of CEOs from both regional health and independent systems.
  • Discuss commonalities and differences in successful and unsuccessful approaches to improving operating margins.

This session qualifies for 1.0 ACHE Face-to-Face Education credit. Attendees must participate during the scheduled time to earn ACHE Face-to-Face Education credit.
