About the Session

For more than 240 years, the United States Army has been in the business of developing and training leaders. Rooted in both the art and science of leadership, the Army Leader Requirements Model traces a leader’s development from his or her formative years through senior-level leadership positions. Coaching, mentorship and continual 360-degree feedback is crucial to the model’s success. During this session, you will gain a keen understanding of how the Army progressively develops leaders through a competency-based model. Faculty will describe, in detail, the Army Leader Requirements Model and how those competencies and attributes are systematically developed through an officer’s career. The session will specifically discuss the development and training of Army physicians with respect to the model and their advancement into both clinical and executive leadership positions. You will leave this session with insights for how to apply a similar model in your organization.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the Army Leader Requirements Model and reproduce aspects of the model in your own organization.
  • Extrapolate a physician-leader training program for your organization from the Army Leader Requirements Model.
