About the Session
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that approximately half of outpatient antibiotic prescribing is inappropriate and at least 30 percent of outpatient antibiotic prescriptions in the United States are unnecessary. In this session, the regulations governing antibiotic stewardship programs in the outpatient setting will be discussed. You also will review the economic benefits of utilizing rapid diagnostics to aid with antimicrobial stewardship. In addition, faculty will discuss how the need for managers to provide well informed leadership is imperative to ensure compliance is maintained, budgets are controlled and improved patient care occurs.
