61H – Consumerism: The Next Chapter

Tuesday, March 24th
2:15pm3:15pm

About the Session

Financial matters have been one of patients’ top concerns for years, yet the healthcare industry has been slow to embrace consumerism. Recent events at the federal level have moved price transparency and financial interactions with patients to the top of the priority list for healthcare executives. But many are uncertain of how to assess their processes and outcomes in this area. In this session, Healthcare Financial Management Association President and CEO Joseph J. Fifer will discuss legislative and regulatory developments related to consumerism, provide a framework for assessing organizational efforts to address consumerism, and share strategies for success in an era when the balance of power is shifting to consumers.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss how healthcare organizations can understand and meet consumer expectations and federal requirements related to price transparency.
  • Review strategies for transitioning from a business-to-business to a consumer-centric approach to the patient financial experience.
