About the Session
This session will be held at the Swissôtel Chicago; includes a 15-minute break
This session will provide an overview and the tools needed for senior executives to embark on a high-reliability journey for their healthcare organizations. Gaps in current healthcare practices will be discussed, as will similar gaps in other industries and how they are remedied. Presenters also will discuss prerequisites for high reliability, including board and senior executive alignment, and they will present key tools, including Leading a Culture of Safety: A Blueprint for Success, developed by ACHE and IHI’s Lucian Leape Institute; just culture; transparency; robust process improvement; celebration of results; ongoing reinforcement; and others. Time will be allotted for interactive questions and answers and discussion among participants.

- Identify the leadership prerequisites for developing and sustaining high-reliability culture and practice in a healthcare organization.
- Describe the three major changes healthcare organizations must undertake to begin the journey toward high reliability.
