About the Session

Northwell Health has engaged leadership from EDs, inpatient units and hospital and system administration to develop the Guiding Principles for Admitted Patients. This session will review the organization’s journey to putting these principles into practice. The process required culture change at the hospital and system levels. Faculty will discuss how and why Northwell made boarding patients a priority, how it addressed the unique needs of each of its hospitals and how it empowered site leaders to collaborate and support change. They will use Long Island Jewish Medical Center’s approach to the guiding principles and its subsequent outcomes as an example of a practical application of these standards. You will gain customizable initiatives that you can employ at your hospital to enhance patient experience while alleviating the factors that contribute to the boarding crisis.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an interdisciplinary strategy for addressing the drivers of ED boarders through standard metrics and protocols.
  • Learn how to support a culture of accountability and transparency through action-driven mitigation strategies and unified analytics.
