09B – Advancing the Anchor Mission to Address Health Disparity

Monday, March 23rd

About the Session

Executives can accelerate closing the economic, racial and health disparity gap in their community with Anchor Mission initiatives. During this session, the presenter will share lessons from the field of what other Healthcare Anchor Networks are accomplishing. Examples include RWJ Barnabas Health, targeting its hiring, purchasing and investment in Newark, N.J.; ProMedica, based in Toledo, Ohio, deepening its approach to addressing social determinants of health; and Rush University Medical Center, helping launch a multi-anchor and community collaboration to reduce the life expectancy gap on the west side of Chicago and more affluent Chicago neighborhoods. The presentation will take a deep dive into HealthyBR, which facilitates the Joint Community Health Needs Assessment and a Joint Community Health Improvement Plan; five competing hospitals in East Baton Rouge Parish commit to this collective work.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the Anchor Mission as a transformative strategy to better align resources to positively impact the health of the community.
  • Apply the Anchor Mission to drive improvements in community health and the quality of patient care.
