88H - Creating and Executing Staffing Strategy That Realigns to Services

Wednesday, March 22

2:00–3:00 p.m.

Not all hospitals have the same access to data, and as cost increases and reimbursement stagnates, data-driven decisions become even more important. Staffing needs to align with services provided, especially during the pandemic, in trailing surges and during periods of more normal operations. Staffing needs to be dynamic and fact-based so that it aligns with the new demand of growing and declining services. This session will share a rural independent hospital’s unique approach and discuss creative solutions that were initiated well before the pandemic, highlighting opportunities to utilize data to drive staffing forecasting and decisions. Data is derived from internal and external benchmarking and can be utilized by all hospitals regardless of their current data capability. This session will also share the key initiatives in non-labor and service line alignment that assisted in the price increase of staffing. Physician services planning will be layered in to show key data analytics that assisted in this staffing strategy. Participants will review the assessment and strategic planning necessary steps to prioritize current opportunities and an introduction to tools necessary that will assist in monitoring and data-driven decisions for course correction and rightsizing.
