61H - Turbocharging Innovation: How Authentic Leadership Transformed an Academic Medical Center
Tuesday, March 21
3:15–4:15 p.m.
In the wake of the pandemic, healthcare executives transitioned from the control of systems, processes and performance to embedding sustainability, purpose and collaboration across functions and locations. This presentation reveals how the CEO of a Florida medical center integrated an enterprise mindset with a culture grounded in authenticity, kindness, vulnerability and transparency. Attendees will learn how a shift from self to service inspired the creation of a facility devoted to clinical care, research and education on emerging infectious diseases like COVID-19 while boosting revenues to $2.2 billion in 2022.
In addition, presenters will discuss enterprise and ecosystems thinking to create a care coordination center that relies on AI, predictive analytics and industrial engineering to improve safety, quality and cost management. Connecting the dots inside and outside the enterprise gave birth to a venture capital fund that drives innovation, supports early-stage startups and incubates healthcare businesses. And, the meta-mindsets of courage, purpose and inclusion drove a COVID-19 prevention response outreach program while accelerating team engagement beyond national healthcare and academic healthcare averages.
