25H - You Can't Fight Gravity, But You Can Use It to Your Advantage: Strategies for These Difficult Times
Monday, March 20
4:30–5:30 p.m.
The healthcare industry is going through an unprecedented transformation that is the result of the confluence of underfunded government and commercial reimbursements, the migration of inpatient procedures to the outpatient setting, and hyperinflation and shortages in critical clinical personnel and supplies.
One can’t fight gravity, i.e., the forces driving care to more cost-effective settings producing equivalent if not superior outcomes; however, they may resist the inevitable. There is an opportunity for those providers who are “first movers” into these strategic areas, e.g., ASCs and urgent care, while their competitors resist the gravitational pull. At the same time, many health systems and industry players are investing in innovative concepts, such as value-based care and risk-based products that have resulted in significant losses and no material competitive advantage. Health systems that cannot differentiate between valid beneficial strategies and the latest passing fad are experiencing significant degradation in financial performance, which in some cases may be irreparable.
This session will use data to paint realistic scenarios for the future (which in some cases are contrary to the conventional wisdom) and then provide real-life, practical, proven strategies for success.
Learning Objectives
- Learn the critical strategies for succeeding over the long term, given these exceptionally trying times.
- Understand the likely scenarios for the key components of the nation’s healthcare system over the next 3-5 years and where to focus resources now.
