20H - The Business Case for Decarbonizing Your Healthcare System: The Roadmap for Success

Monday, March 20

3:15–4:15 p.m.

There is growing urgency around climate change and climate-friendly health practices. Healthcare systems in the U.S. contribute approximately 10% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. A public-private partnership of leaders is addressing a call to action to address climate change and its health effects. Led by the National Academy of Medicine, the Climate Collaborative is committed to addressing the sector’s impact while strengthening its sustainability and resilience. Learn how your organization can have a meaningful impact and explore the business case for planning and implementing decarbonization strategies around three key areas: healthcare operations, healthcare supply chain and societal change.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe key climate levers used to decarbonize the healthcare system across stakeholder groups in the U.S.
  • Explore the ROI of decarbonization, how to pay for projects, the cost of carbon offset and the social cost of carbon.
