Gerald Wickham, EdD, in Vice President for Medical Education at HCA Healthcare. Dr. Wickham served as Executive Director of Institutional Accreditation with the ACGME, overseeing annual accreditation decisions for 875 sponsoring institutions. During his time with the ACGME, he ushered in a new fellowship in Healthcare Administration, Leadership, and Management (HALM), rolled out new leave of absence policies for residents and fellows, and grew the Institutional Review Committee (IRC) from 15 to 17 national members, creating new representation for DIOs during a period of significant GME expansion.
Prior to the ACGME, Dr. Wickham served with the Office of GME at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, overseeing accreditation and faculty professional development for 88 residency and fellowship programs as Director of Strategic Initiatives. He previously served as Assistant Dean for Medical Education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor of Health Professions Education.
He hails from Wexford, Ireland, and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Ulster University, Northern Ireland; a Master of Arts from the University of Iowa; and a Doctorate in Education from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin. He has completed post-doctoral and professional development training with Harvard-Macy, the Shapiro Institute at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and MIT. He is also a published poet.
