Kevin M. Chagin is a seasoned data science and analytics leader with over a decade of experience spanning healthcare, consumer goods, and academia. He currently serves as the Director of Population Health Data and Analytics at MetroHealth Systems, where he leads a multidisciplinary team in developing advanced analytical frameworks to improve health outcomes and operational efficiency. His work integrates statistical modeling, machine learning, and health informatics to drive data-informed decision-making across the organization.
Kevin holds a Master of Science in Mathematics with a concentration in Applied Statistics from Cleveland State University and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from Ohio University. His academic foundation has been instrumental in his ability to translate complex data into actionable insights across diverse sectors.
At MetroHealth, Kevin has built and managed a high-performing analytics team, implemented sophisticated data models, and led the development of intelligent insights to support population health initiatives. His leadership extends to chairing the data advisory committee, where he provides strategic guidance on analytics priorities and resource allocation.
Prior to his current role, Kevin was the Lead Data Scientist at The J.M. Smucker Company. There, he designed and deployed machine learning models—including boosting trees, recursive neural networks, and Bayesian hierarchical models—to forecast sales and optimize pricing strategies. He also developed interactive applications using R Shiny, Tableau, and Spotfire, enabling business leaders to explore predictive scenarios and make data-driven decisions.
Kevin’s earlier career includes a five-year tenure as a Biostatistician at the Cleveland Clinic, where he collaborated with clinicians and researchers on numerous studies, contributing to over 20 peer-reviewed publications. His work supported international research collaborations and advanced clinical education through teaching roles in epidemiology and biostatistics.
In parallel with his professional roles, Kevin served as a Lecturer at Cleveland State University, teaching undergraduate courses in mathematics and statistics. His commitment to education and mentorship reflects his broader dedication to knowledge sharing and capacity building in data science.
Kevin’s career reflects a deep commitment to leveraging data for social good, particularly in healthcare. His recent work focuses on evaluating and improving screening and referral systems for social determinants of health, contributing to more equitable and effective care delivery.
