Leadership
We are in an era where natural and manmade disasters are happening more frequently with greater intensity and duration. They are happening at times "everywhere" and "all at once." The ability to lead through polycrisis, in which crises can occur in parallel, makes crisis leadership a necessary competency for every leader in healthcare. Whether the incident is in the facility or the community it serves, the healthcare organization is likely to be involved. Our research shows that there is gap in leadership education, and it is not widely taught at medical schools, schools of public health, business schools or in healthcare administration programs. Healthcare organizations are better prepared for clinical emergencies rather than nonclinical crisis. Every healthcare organization needs to develop the competencies within its leadership ranks to effectively manage not only one disaster but also multiple hazards at once, such as a wildfire and a cyberattack. This session will provide a toolkit for immediate implementation.
