    In a time when independent rural hospitals and clinics are facing increased financial and operational challenges, many rural providers are seeking healthcare models that preserve their independence while continuing to invest in the delivery of high-quality care in the changing environment. Two states (North Dakota and Minnesota), with additional states looking to replicate the model, have created high-value networks that are composed of rural, independent hospitals (and their clinics). These high-value network models, composed of a clinically integrated network and shared services, are transforming the future of viability for rural health systems and paving a way to achieve value-based care.
