Workforce
While culture and engagement are two of the most crucial determinants of organizational success across industries, especially in healthcare, it remains that defining, measuring and consistently implementing them continues to be a challenge. UNC Health is leading the way with a largely unprecedented approach to driving its success by establishing an Office of Culture and Engagement. This unified team focuses on creating shared understanding and ownership of their ONE UNC Health journey at the intersection of strategy and culture—something needed by all organizations.
This session will explore UNC Health's transformative journey to engage 45,000 teammates, hospitals, a School of Medicine, statewide-affiliated entities and more, examining the challenges faced, partnerships leveraged and key actions that enabled success. Specifically, we'll discuss how to activate defining a shared purpose, strategic journey and values. We'll talk about how engaging everyone in the why, what and how (starting with leaders) leads to higher quality, better experience, improved retention and more. We'll examine how strategy and culture enable one another and why it is critical to connect the dots between the two, especially in an evolving healthcare landscape where change is taking place everywhere at once. Lastly, we'll discuss the role of behavioral standards and what happens when they are consistently modeled and cascaded by leaders.
Over the years, UNC Health has created shared understanding and ownership among senior leaders, generated excitement and one-ness among teammates through shared experiences. This advanced strategic approach worked by making it everyone's role. Instead of looking at slides during our time together, participants will engage in the interactive Learning Map® methodology to experience strategic storytelling and visualization, allowing them to come to their own conclusions about how UNC Health has enabled engagement at scale and what it might mean for them and their organizations.
