Director, Workforce Planning
University of Missouri Health Care
Megan Cram, RN-BSN, MHA, is the Director of Workforce Planning at the University of Missouri Health Care, where she leads system-wide efforts in workforce forecasting, resource allocation, strategic talent development, and succession planning. In this role, she is responsible for aligning workforce structures to support both operational efficiency and high-quality patient care across MU Health Care’s academic and community hospitals. Since assuming this position in 2023, Megan has played a key role in several enterprise-wide initiatives, including the integration of Capital Region Medical Center, a local community hospital.
Prior to her current role, Megan spent over a decade in clinical and nursing leadership. From 2016 to 2021, she successfully led a high-turnover general medicine unit through a transformation that reduced nursing turnover from 34% to 7%, halved the unit’s mortality index, and tripled its number of open beds. Under her leadership, the unit piloted multiple clinical improvement projects, most notably decreasing code blue events on the general floor by nearly 40% and significantly improving sepsis outcomes by leveraging technology alerts for early intervention. Her success was driven by strategic staff engagement and strong partnerships with physician dyads. From 2017–2019, Megan served on the planning committee for a new unit designed for at-risk general care patients and went on to open one of the Midwest’s first Integrated Medicine units, blending environmental design and patient and staff safety strategies. This innovative work was made possible through collaboration with clinical engineers, regulatory teams, architects, and frontline clinicians.
Megan’s diverse clinical background includes bedside nursing in the Burn ICU and leadership experience in Trauma, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Internal Medicine. She has held roles as a preceptor, educator, manager, and now director, and is known for her commitment to mentorship and leader development. Megan holds a bachelor’s degree in biology, a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and a master’s degree in healthcare administration. Her work consistently reflects a deep commitment to operational excellence, innovation, and advancing healthcare through evidence-based leadership and collaborative strategy.
