Director, Office of Sustainability
Houston Methodist
A graduate of Texas Tech University, Jason Fischer launched his career in organizational/leadership development and volunteer/non-profit management assistance for West Texas non-profits, schools, and businesses. After diagnosis of a blood disorder, Jason endured a stem cell transplant and recovery from bone marrow failure that inspired a career in healthcare. Jason joined Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital in 2017 leading the establishment of their Environmental Services Department; developing a networkwide Environmental Services Council of Directors; and launching the entity’s Patient Transportation Department.
Jason joined the Houston Methodist Academic Institute in 2023 to develop the Office of Sustainability and serves as inaugural director, administrator for the Center for Health and Nature, and sits on the Healthcare Plastics Recycling Council’s Hospital Facility Advisory Board. Working from a healthcare systems perspective, Jason and his team strategically align programs and research across four pillars including hospital operations, clinical operations, environmental health, and nature-health intersections.
Projects include implementation of emissions tracking software; deployment of the first solar panel array in the Texas Medical Center (TMC); and development of the TMC Sustainability Workgroup seeking collaborative programming for larger opportunity impact.
