Dr. Cindy Ann Stout has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of El Paso Children’s Hospital for eight years. Dr. Stout is responsible for the operations, budget, development, and strategy implementation for a 148-bed dedicated, not-for-profit, and only specialty children’s hospital in a 350-mile radius. As one of the youngest specialty children’s hospitals in the nation, Dr. Stout was hired as the seventh CEO within five years, where she led the hospital out of bankruptcy and continued to build numerous service lines such as neurosurgery, craniofacial, pediatric multidisciplinary clinics, urgent care centers, audiology/ENT, epilepsy monitoring unit, and orthopedic specialty program, to name just a few. With over 30 years of healthcare experience, she was able to move the hospital into a positive net position within one and a half years. Prior to this role, Dr. Stout worked as the Chief Nursing Officer at University Medical Center El Paso and HCA Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare.
Dr. Stout earned her doctorate in executive nursing from Duke University. She currently serves as a board member and past Chairman for the Children’s Hospital Association of Texas, board member of the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation, Chairman of Emergence Health Network Board of Trustees; and board member of El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank, to name a few.
Dr. Stout is nationally known for developing a nurse internship program that has been replicated throughout the nation. It resulted in improved nurse competencies, higher NCLEX pass rates, savings of millions of orientation dollars and FTEs, as well as higher nurse satisfaction rates.
