Jonathan E. Alpert MD PhD is Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Professor of Psychiatry, Neuroscience and Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. He is also Board Chair of University Behavioral Associates at Montefiore Medical Center. He is Vice Chair of the Future of the DSM Steering Committee of the American Psychiatric Association where he is also past Chair of the Council on Research. He also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, Psychiatric Research and Clinical Practice, and Journal of Psychiatric Research and is author of over 240 publications. He has had research funding from the NIH, PCORI, and NARSAD and has received awards for excellence in teaching, mentorship, scholarship and patient care from Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Partners HealthCare, the American Psychiatric Association, the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and Montefiore Einstein. His interests include pharmacological and psychotherapy treatments of mood disorders, ethical issues in research design, advancing mental health education and training, and promoting mental health equity in research and clinical care. He received his BA and MD from Yale and PhD from the University of Cambridge in Behavioral Pharmacology. He trained at Boston Children’s Hospital and McLean and was a clinician, researcher and educator at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School for 24 years before joining Montefiore and Einstein in 2017.
