Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Growth Officer
UChicago Medicine
Amy Ross is executive vice president and chief strategy and growth officer at UChicago Medicine, which includes the University of Chicago Health System, the Pritzker School of Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, and dozens of outpatient clinics in downtown Chicago, the south suburbs and Northwest Indiana. She was recently named to Modern Healthcare's list of Leading Women for 2025.
In her role at UChicago Medicine, she directs implementation of the organization’s new Elevate 2035 strategy, which includes all growth and expansion activities across the clinical, educational and research divisions of the enterprise. In 2023 she led the UChicago Medicine AdventHealth joint venture in which UChicago Medicine acquired controlling interest in four Illinois hospitals and a network of nearly 50 physicians’ offices and outpatient locations.
Amy’s patient journey to manage her congenital heart defect inspired her to pursue a variety of roles within healthcare organizations. She previously served in leadership roles at Northwestern Medicine, NorthShore University Health System and in healthcare consulting at The Chartis Group and Deloitte. Her experience in large academic medical centers has included clinical and non-clinical management across the care continuum, day-to-day operations in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and leading the development and planning of a quality and outcomes management program. Her focus also included ongoing enhancements to overall service line development in financial reporting, funds flow, strategy, and marketing efforts.
In addition, Amy spent several years managing and leading assessments of front-end revenue cycle processes across large hospital systems and AMCs and implementing IT tools for enhanced performance for the end-user. As part of her revenue cycle work, she led redesign activities in strategic development of regional financial clearance centers and departmental business process redesign.
Amy holds a master of health administration degree from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management, and a bachelor of arts in biology from the College of St. Benedict. She is a Carol Emmott fellow, a board member of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, a board member of the American Heart Association Go Red initiative and a member of Chief and the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is the former president of the Glass Slipper Project, which collects new and almost-new formal dresses and accessories and provides them, free of charge, to high school juniors and seniors who are unable to purchase their own prom attire.
