Dr. Sasidhar Gunturu is a highly accomplished psychiatrist and educator, currently serving as Vice Chair
for Education, Research, and Faculty Development and Director of the Psychiatry Residency Training
Program at BronxCare Health System. Since joining BronxCare in 2018, he has been instrumental in
expanding psychiatric services, integrating behavioral health into primary care clinics, and advancing
residency training programs. His leadership has significantly enhanced patient outcomes and
operational efficiencies within the department.
Dr. Gunturu completed his medical education at NTR University of Health Sciences in India and pursued
advanced training in psychiatry through a General Psychiatry Residency at Icahn School of Medicine at
Mount Sinai, followed by fellowships in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at the University of
Miami and Public Psychiatry at Columbia University. He is board-certified by the American Board of
Psychiatry and Neurology and holds academic appointments as Clinical Associate Professor at St.
George’s University Medical School and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine
at Mount Sinai.
A recognized leader in his field, Dr. Gunturu has held numerous professional leadership roles,
including Medical Director for Psychiatric Integrated Services & Community Psychiatry and Consulting
Chief Behavioral Health Officer at Essen Health Care, where he oversees behavioral health services for
underserved populations in the South Bronx. He is also the President-Elect of the APA Bronx District
Branch, reflecting his commitment to advancing mental health care access and equity.
Dr. Gunturu’s academic contributions are extensive, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications,
presentations at more than 90 national and international conferences, and editorial roles with leading
psychiatric journals. He has also been honored with multiple awards, including the Outstanding
Resident of the Year Award from the American Psychiatric Association and the BronxCare Teacher of
the Year Award.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Gunturu is deeply committed to mentoring future
psychiatrists, fostering research innovation, and enhancing community mental health services.
