Major Lindsey Umlauf is the Chief of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center in Alexandria, VA. She commissioned into the U.S. Army in 2010 through the Army Baylor Doctor of Physical Therapy Program and holds dual master’s degrees in Health Administration (MHA) and Business Administration (MBA) from Baylor. Major Umlauf has held clinical and non-clinical leadership roles, including Director, Strategic Actions Group at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, Executive Officer and Chief of Current Operations at Medical Readiness Command, West, and Deputy Chief of Rehabilitation at Brooke Army Medical Center. She deployed as the sole physical therapist with Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan in 2016.
She is a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS), Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). She is a current student of the Chief Data Officer graduate certificate program at National Defense University and the Global Health Engagement graduate certificate program through Uniformed Services University. Major Umlauf is active in several professional organizations within the American College of Healthcare Executives and is a board member and co-host for the War Docs Military Medicine Podcast.
MAJ Lindsey Umlauf is passionate about equipping medical professionals to harness their natural leadership abilities and expand their impact beyond the clinic—to the boardroom and beyond. Drawing from her own path from direct patient care to influential leadership positions within the U.S. Army and the healthcare sector, she created a dynamic five-step framework titled “You Belong at the Table… But Bring Your Own Chair.” Through this framework, she empowers others to own their voice, embrace their value, and lead with purpose at every level. She lives in Alexandria, VA with her husband, Jon, and mini goldendoodle, Chewy.
