Dr. Janine Bera is the Chief Health Officer for WellSpace Health, which provides medical, dental, behavioral health, and supportive services to over 125,000 people annually across 31 locations in Sacramento and Placer counties. WellSpace includes Federally Qualified Health Centers, a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center, other Behavioral Health Centers, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Center (988 Sacramento), and multiple regional partnerships. As CHO, Dr. Bera leads this integrated system serving vulnerable residents, including those experiencing poverty, homelessness, or lacking insurance. She has been recognized by the California State Assembly as an Unsung Hero, named one of Sacramento Magazine’s 100 Notable Business Leaders, and received the Woman Who Means Business award from the Sacramento Business Journal.
Previously, Dr. Bera was a longtime primary care physician specializing in preventive medicine and chronic disease management. She is a graduate of UC Davis Medical School and its Internal Medicine Primary Care Residency.
Dr. Bera is a motivational speaker and active community leader. She serves as Vice Chair of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America board and Co-Chair of Accreditation & Quality. She is also on the boards of the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society, Wide Open Walls, and Sacramento Region Community Foundation, and serves on the Physician Advisory Board for Molina Health. She is a Past President of both the American Heart Association, Sacramento, and the Sacramento Tree Foundation, and a Senior Fellow in the American Leadership Forum.
She is married to Congressman Dr. Ami Bera and has one adult daughter. Her philosophy: “Work hard. Make a difference. And, have fun!”
