Adia K. Ross, MD, MHA serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center in High Point, N.C., a 351 bed, not-for-profit tertiary community hospital which is part of Advocate Health. In this role, she leads hospital wide initiatives for quality and patient safety, physician engagement, and clinical service line oversight, including behavioral health and oncology. She brings more than a decade of leadership experience across academic and community settings, and is known for building high-performing, values-driven teams that prioritize safety, equity, and system-level learning.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Ross served as Chief Medical Officer at Duke Regional Hospital. Over the course of her career, she has led clinical integration efforts across multiple domains, including hospital medicine, care coordination, patient throughput, and APP/physician practice management. As Medical Director for Hospital Medicine at Duke Raleigh Hospital, she led a group of more than 40 physicians and APPs, improving care delivery, documentation, and provider engagement. She also played a key role in leading and designing key initiatives in the Duke Health Transfer Center, aligning inter-facility transfer processes and care pathways to support the health system’s growth strategy.
Dr. Ross is a practicing internal medicine physician, Clinical Associate Professor through the Wake Forest School of Medicine, and an active educator of residents, medical students, and PA students. She is a frequent lecturer and facilitator on leadership, speaking at both institutional and national levels. She earned her medical degree and Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed her residency and an administrative fellowship at Duke University Hospital.
She has been nationally recognized for her leadership, including being named one of the “Top 10 Chief Medical Officers” by MedTech Magazine in 2023, a “40 Under 40” honoree by Triangle Business Journal in 2019, and as a Carol Emmott Fellow in 2023. She serves on the North Carolina Healthcare Association Foundation Board, the Foundation for a Healthy High Point Board, and previously on the Duke LifePoint Central Carolina Hospital Board. She also chairs the Practice Management Committee of the Society of Hospital Medicine and serves on the American Hospital Association’s Committee on Clinical Leadership.
Dr. Ross is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Society of Hospital Medicine. She is committed to advancing care for all, developing the next generation of leaders, and fostering a culture of safety and accountability across health systems.
