Christy Harris Lemak serves as Executive Vice President of the Scottsdale Institute where she leads applied research projects that inform the work of our members and sponsors. Dr. Lemak directs and coordinates SI efforts to develop insights and share them effectively across our community of members, sponsors, and the field. She works to support the development of health system leadership teams that can effectively leverage technology and people to achieve their missions.
In addition, Dr. Lemak is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she also serves as Deputy Director of the Marnix E. Heersink Institute for Biomedical Innovation in the Heersink School of Medicine. UAB is home to graduate programs in healthcare leadership, health informatics, healthcare quality and safety, and simulation. Dr. Lemak’s research and teaching focus on leadership and high performance in healthcare, including a new course on Leadership and Ethics for AI in Medicine.
Dr. Lemak currently serves on the boards of the non-profit Community Hospital Corporation (Plano, TX) and the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame. She was honored with the 2022 AUPHA Filerman Prize for Educational Leadership. Dr. Lemak previously held faculty positions at the University of Michigan and the University of Florida and before becoming an academic worked for The Sachs Group, Henry Ford Health System and Mercy Health System. She received her PhD from the University of Michigan, MHA and MBA degrees from the University of Missouri and BS from the University of Illinois.
