State Compensation Insurance Fund
Dinesh B. Govindarao, is the Chief Medical Officer for California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund. Dr Govindarao represents State Fund as an advocate for injured workers and a driver of change. He provides strategic direction and oversight of the organization’s many medical management programs. He has been instrumental in various initiatives at State Fund including opioid reduction, expedited treatment authorizations, outcomes based provider networks, provider education, and occupational residency partnerships.
Prior to this, Dr Govindarao was the Vice President and National Medical Director of Worksites for Concentra. He also served as the Medical Director for Boeing Satellite Systems in El Segundo, CA prior to being at Concentra. He received his MD from Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now part of Drexel University) in Philadelphia, received his Masters in Public Health from the University of California in Los Angeles, and his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California Berkeley where he majored in Genetics and minored in Business.
Dr Govindarao joined ACOEM in 2000 and became a Fellow in 2007. He is a member of the Western Occupational and Environmental Medical Association (WOEMA), one of ACOEM’s component societies, and has served for 3 years as WOEMA Treasurer. Dr Govindarao is Board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in occupational medicine.
He lives in the Bay area with his wife and has 4 adult children. In his spare time, he loves to spend time with his family and play pickleball. He also is quite involved in his community, currently serving as an elected official for a special district.
